Ha Long Bay

Brian Curley, of Schmidt-Curley, asked if we could create an animation for a hole with possibly the most spectacular view he has seen. It wasn’t until he sent over the site photos that we understood what he meant. The view across Ha Long Bay and the iconic rock formations is quite something.

After we had stopped admiring the site we had to think about how we were going to create it in 3D. Like a lot of the projects we work on, the hole (or course) is only one piece of the puzzle when you are putting together (or creating a 3D model for) a golf course animation. We have to consider the environment that surrounds the course, which will give the course a context and backdrop for the animations. We decided to model the rock formations and the city below in detail, from a combination of Google Earth data and site photos.

The animation was used by Brian to present his design to the developer, but, ultimately it was used for marketing the project, and the animation (and CGIs) has since been used on the course website and across social media.
