Imagery + Animation Golf + Architecture

St George’s Hill Golf Club

Golf course architects Lobb & Partners contacted us about a renovation project they were working on at the Harry Colt-designed                 St George’s Hill Golf Club in Surrey, UK.

They wanted to give members as much information as possible about the potential changes to the first hole, including additional fairway bunkers and a redesigned green complex – so they brought us in to create an animation and make it easy for the members to understand.

For this animation we took a slightly different approach. We usually show the proposed design of a hole, but because of the sensitivity and the natural interest of the members, we wanted to give them the opportunity to compare the existing with the proposed – so they could see exactly what was changing. So we created a before-and-after style animation.

Club secretary Gary Peddie said: “The animation was very professional. It certainly had the ‘wow’ factor which is exactly what I was looking for. We ran it on a monitor in the clubhouse leading up to the meeting and sent out a link via email so members could view it online – and it generated a lot of interest.”

Course architect Tim Lobb said “The animation was a vital tool in describing our design proposals for these important works. The membership had full access to the animation and it assisted them in understanding the proposed works and to gain confidence in the outcome.”

A second animation was created in the style of a trailer, giving glimpses of the proposed changes and character of the hole. This was created specially for social media.

Update: The first hole is under construction

FUN FACT
This was our first project for an existing course, but we have since worked on many!

For our new build projects I try to do an animation wherever I can. They are such an effective tool for displaying our design philosophies. This was the first time I have used an animation for an existing course renovation and was very pleased with the result. We will continue to work with Harris Kalinka for our projects as their animations and attention to detail are world class. They produce the most realistic golf animations I have seen.

We are looking at a bunker renovation programme running over the next three to four years and I would not hesitate to use Harris Kalinka.
